Krembil Nursing

Our nursing funding pillar began with a single grant championed by Stacey Krembil. The Krembil Nursing Awards (KNA) were established in 2004 in support of nursing research, quality improvement, and career development. For 20 years Stacey focused this pillar on these awards by chairing and developing this program. In 2021, we announced the Krembil Nursing Scholarships as an extension program of these awards and have since expanded our support with some small additional grants and events.

What We Do

Like most healthcare-based programs, the COVID-19 pandemic greatly affected the operations of the Krembil Nursing Awards. As bedside nurses, our recipients were on the frontlines of the health crisis deprioritizing quality improvement and research projects. As lockdowns began, the KNA was temporarily shutdown, but Stacey’s passion for nursing remained. We took this downtime and, with the help of the Toronto Western Hospital, developed the Krembil Nursing Scholarships.

These scholarships are an extension of the Krembil Nursing Awards and are awarded to nurses at the Toronto Western Hospital pursuing their master’s degree who show a great dedication to improving patient care. Many KNA recipients have gone on to become mentors to new awardees. These scholarships were the next logical step toward supporting their professional development.
